John Fleming
John Fleming founded the YS Kids Playhouse, a multi-media theater for youth, in 1995. He has directed and choreographed 15 original plays for youth and has instilled a high degree of theatre craft with over 1000 YSKP participants. As a director, choreographer and performer, his career extends over thirty years of artistic activity in the theater. He is on the staff of the Antioch Area Theater. He is a teaching artist with The Ohio Arts Council Arts Learning Program, the Ohio Partners in Education/Kennedy Center Collaborative Initiative and The Muse Machine of Dayton. In recognition of his work with youth, he has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, the International peace and Research Association, the Minnesota Playwrights Center and Culture Works of Dayton. He is a board member of the International Peace Research Association Foundation and the African-American Culture Works. As a performer he has been seen at the Edinborough Festival, Japan’s Toga Festival, the Venice Carnivale, the Montreal International Theater Festival, Belgrade’s Bitef Festival and the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro in Bogota. He holds an MA in Conflict Resolution from Antioch University. A native of New Orleans, he resides in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
