Advanced and Introductory Acting Immersion (Summer Productions)Form
Intensive pre-professional acting and training program (ages 13-18) is geared for youth who are experienced actors and want to take their skills to a new level. The immersions will be based around the summer production of Conference of the Birds and includes vocal, movement, and acting training. Fee is $250.
Dramaturgy. Explore the Birds Persian and Sufi cultural roots, as well as, our stylistic interpretation of the play by Brook.
Jazz Singing Technique. Composer and musical director Neal Kirkwood takes you through jazz and stage singing techniques.
Movement. Intensive training in dance and movement techniques.
Puppetry. This play uses both large and hand puppets. Explore how to bring puppets to life.
Sacred Dance. Specialized instruction in Sufi dances.
Improv. Forgot your line? Can’t find that character? Improv techniques can help build character and save you in a pinch.

Advanced and Introductory Acting Immersion (Summer Productions)Form
Suited for youth who are younger or have limited stage experience (suggested ages 9-12). Focuses on Building theater fundamentals, while offering a quality production experience based around the Oceans of Notions(Lakes of Mistakes) story. Includes workshop intensives listed below. Fee is $250
Intro to Theater Learn theater basics, acting, and character fundamentals.
Basic Movement Movement training to get you ready for the stage.
Pun Shop Practice the fun wordplay in the play and vocal skills needed onstage.

Technical Theater Immersion: Lighting, Sound and Special Effects.
Technical Theater Parent Profile Form
Space limited to 8, suggested ages 12-18. New and trained “techies” sound, lighting, and special effects, while learning outdoor venue tech set-up. Will run tech for one or both shows—Conference of the Birds, an outdoor amphitheatre or Oceans of Notions, an outdoor large tent experience. Fee is $75.
June 11, 18. 25 Fridays 10-noon. Set-up times as determined by youth and instructor.
Musician’s Immersion
Music Immersion Parent Profile Form
Space limited to 6, suggested ages 12-18. Youth who already have instrumental skills (trumpet, saxophone,
trombone, woodwind, percussion, bass) will work with jazz composer and musical director, Neal Kirkwood developing skills in the jazz music genre. Includes performing for The Conference of the Birds with professional jazz musician ensemble. Fee is $75.
June 9-July 19. Rehearsals up to three times a week, specific schedule to be determined by musical director and youth.
Dabigs
DaBigs 1: Youth 15+
Run canteen, cast party, and assist fellow performers in their stage work for Conference of the Birds. DaBigs this year will also videotape and run an online summer blog. Acceptance to position through application. DaBigs members receive a small stipend.
DaBigs 2: Production Assistant. Youth 15+
Dabigs can apply for this advanced production assistant role with the Oceans of Notions program. Production assistants will run warm-ups, lines with cast and assist with rehearsals. DaBigs also run canteen and cast party. Must be available during second show July 5-July 27. These are paid positions.
Tween Youth Workshops
Tween Youth Workshops Parent Profile Form
Join YSKP Alums for introductory theatre arts workshops (ages 5-10). All zany and fun sessions provide basics in acting, vocal, and movement training, with a different concentration each week exploring the world of theatre. Weekly short presentations on Fridays.
Mondays-Fridays, 9-Noon, The First Presbyterian Church, Yellow Springs.
Fee is $100/session. Discount available for multiple week registrations and for more than one child enrolled.
July 5-9: Birds of a Feather, Flock Together. Introduction to theater fundamentals and storytelling with focus on Central Asian myths. Create you own animal or birds character!
July 12-16: Bird Songs. Special emphasis on stage vocal and singing skills. Create your own bird song!
July 19-23: Masks! Learn how sets, costumes, props, and masks give characters meaning and depth. Make your own bird mask!
July 26-30: Incubate! Take your idea from page to stage to tell your own Tale of the Birds!
