UPCOMING SEASON
YS Kids Playhouse Announces the 2009 Spies Like Us Season!
The YS Kids Playhouse’s 14th Anniversary Season will kick off with A PRICE TO PAY: Before Bond Became 007, by YSKP alum Daniel Malarkey. This new musical action adventure uses song, dance and the urban movement style “parkour” to tell the story of James Bond as a boy. Inspired by the James Bond novels and films, the story follows a charming and not so charming cast of characters including Ernie Blofeld, Mad Frankie, Moneypenny, M1, Jaws, Shrimpie and Chapstick who prance and dance through London Streets on their way to becoming heroes, hunks and baddies of the big screen.
A PRICE TO PAY: Before Bond Became 007, intended for youth actors age 13 years and over, features a jazzy score by Neal Kirkwood and choreography by DCDC’s William McClellan as it turns the Antioch Amphitheater into a global playground – or is it just a big skate park?
Directed by John Fleming, performances of A PRICE TO PAY span two consecutive weekends in the Antioch Amphitheater: July 9, 10, 11, 12 and July 16, 17, 18, 19.
In the season’s second offering, history meets mystery and mischief in….
The Short and Bloody History of Spies. From disguises to invisible ink, real spies, the famous and the unlikely, take the stage in this charming new adaptation of the book by John Farman. Youth (ages 9 -12) will play an amazing cast of true characters–with cameos by Boris and Natasha—under a tent at Young’s Jersey Dairy.
Performances of The Short and Bloody History of Spies, written and directed by John Fleming, span two consecutive weekends: August 7, 8, 9 (2 performances) and August 14, 15 (2 performances), & 16 (2 performances).
As it searches for a new home, the YSKP will take up temporary residence this summer for rehearsals at the First Presbyterian Church, 314 Xenia Ave. Auditions will take place on Saturday May 9, 2009. Participants in The Spies Like Us season will also take part in the Theater Arts Immersion, a two-week training intensive in acting, voice, dance and dramaturgy. Included this year are three additional special immersions in theater tech, photo and video documentary for theater, and the Goldfinger Musical Ensemble for wind and brass instruments.
Fees:
* Either summer production (James Bond or Short & Bloody History of Spies): $250.00
* Musician’s Immersion: $75.00
* Technical Theatre Immersion: $100.00
